I am very excited to announce that I have received four new commissions for solo voice and piano to be premiered later this year.
Three of these commissions are by top vocal students at the University of Aberdeen Caitlin Bell (soprano), Erin Ralph (mezzo-soprano), and David Walsh (tenor). All three are students of famed opera singer Judith Howarth. Along with the three Aberdonians, I've also been commissioned by the fantastic tenor Alex Withers, who was the tenor soloist for the premiere of my Martyrdom of the Saints in March.
Three of the commissions or for song cycles about 10 minutes in length each, and will be premiered 16 November at St Andrew's Cathedral, Aberdeen:
-Love's Torments, with text by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (Bell)
-On His Shoulders, Rejoicing, with text by William Blake (Ralph)
-Trailing Clouds of Glory, with text by William Wordsworth (Walsh)
The fourth is a commissioned arrangement, with the premiere date and location to be determined shortly:
-Saviour, Redeemer of My Soul, text by Orson F Whitney and original music by Harry A Dean (Withers)
